Drug intelligence / Profile preview
WH004 is a small molecule therapeutic developed by Beijing Wehand-Bio Pharmaceutical for the treatment of hypertension. It is a controlled-release formulation of nifedipine (referred to as NIC in sponsor documentation) utilizing an osmotic pump delivery system. Nifedipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that selectively inhibits the influx of calcium ions through L-type calcium channels in vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle. This action results in peripheral vasodilation and a reduction in systemic blood pressure. The osmotic pump formulation is designed to provide stable plasma concentrations and improve patient compliance compared to immediate-release versions.
