Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Wheat peptides + fucoidan is a combination of two food-grade bioactive ingredients, wheat-derived peptides and fucoidan (a sulfated polysaccharide from brown seaweed), developed as a nutritional supplement. This combination has demonstrated protective effects against gastric mucosal damage in both animal models and human clinical trials. Mechanistically, it acts through anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and pro-survival pathways. In preclinical studies, the combination increased superoxide dismutase levels (anti-oxidant effect), decreased malondialdehyde (marker of oxidative stress), reduced inflammatory mediators such as interleukin-8 and platelet-activating factor, suppressed apoptosis via Caspase 3 reduction, and promoted mucosal healing by increasing prostaglandin E2 and activating epidermal growth factor receptor signaling[1][3]. Clinical trials in patients with chronic superficial gastritis showed that supplementation reduced gastric mucosal damage, improved gastrointestinal symptoms (pain, bloating, acid reflux), enhanced quality of life scores[2], decreased fecal calprotectin (an inflammation marker), slightly increased short-chain fatty acids production in the gut microbiota[2], and shifted gut microbial composition toward more beneficial taxa such as Bifidobacterium pseudocatenulatum[6]. The product is positioned as a dietary supplement for supporting gastric health.
