Drug intelligence / Profile preview
White mulberry leaf extract is a botanical extract derived from the leaves of the *Morus alba* tree. It is rich in bioactive compounds, most notably the iminosugar 1-deoxynojirimycin (DNJ), which acts as a potent competitive inhibitor of intestinal alpha-glucosidase enzymes. By temporarily blocking these enzymes, the extract slows the breakdown of complex carbohydrates and sucrose into simple sugars, thereby blunting postprandial blood glucose and insulin spikes. It is widely used as a dietary supplement and nutraceutical to support healthy glucose metabolism, improve insulin sensitivity, and manage prediabetes and type 2 diabetes.
