Drug intelligence / Profile preview
White sweet potato (*Ipomoea batatas* L.), specifically the Tainung 10 (TNG10) cultivar, is a functional food and botanical intervention used as a meal replacement (WSP-MR) for weight management and metabolic health. The WSP-MR formula is a nutrient-balanced powder containing approximately 30% white sweet potato along with pea protein and plant oils. It functions as a low-glycemic index (GI ~36.2) carbohydrate source rich in dietary fiber, resistant starch (RS), and slowly digestible starch (SDS). Clinical data from randomized controlled trials (e.g., NCT02935179) indicate that WSP-MR significantly reduces body weight, body fat, BMI, and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels in overweight individuals. Mechanistically, it has been shown to increase adiponectin levels, reduce insulin resistance, and improve lipid profiles, including lowering LDL-cholesterol and fibrinogen levels while increasing HDL-cholesterol.
