Drug intelligence / Profile preview
White varnish, specifically referred to as Clinpro White Varnish or Vanish White Varnish, is a commercially available topical fluoride varnish developed by 3M ESPE. It contains 5% sodium fluoride (NaF) and tri-calcium phosphate (TCP). The varnish is designed to promote the remineralization of tooth enamel and increase its resistance to acid dissolution. It achieves this by providing a sustained release of fluoride, calcium, and phosphate ions to the tooth surface. A protective fumaric acid barrier within the varnish prevents the premature reaction between calcium and fluoride ions during storage, with these ions being released upon contact with saliva for effective remineralization. It is used for the prevention and treatment of early enamel demineralization, such as white spot lesions, and for reducing dentin hypersensitivity.
