Overview

This is a combination product consisting of a whole cell killed oral cholera vaccine (kOCV) and a probiotic. The kOCV component contains inactivated (killed) Vibrio cholerae whole cells, typically from both O1 and O139 serogroups, designed to induce protective immunity against cholera by stimulating the intestinal immune response and limiting V. cholerae colonization of the gut[2][3][6]. Probiotics are live microorganisms that confer health benefits to the host, often by modulating gut microbiota or enhancing mucosal immunity. The rationale for combining these agents is based on evidence that certain probiotics or their metabolites (such as short-chain fatty acids like butyrate) can enhance mucosal immune responses induced by oral vaccines, potentially improving efficacy or speed of protection[5]. This combination aims to provide both direct immunological protection against cholera and additional support for gut health and immune modulation.
