Whole tooth allografts (WTA) are biological grafting materials derived from extracted human teeth, specifically processed for use in alveolar ridge preservation. Developed by researchers at Jordan University Hospital, WTA is being evaluated as a sustainable and scalable alternative to autogenous bone grafts. The material is placed into the extraction socket to prevent the natural resorption of the alveolar ridge that occurs after tooth loss, thereby maintaining sufficient bone volume for subsequent dental implant placement or other prosthetic rehabilitations. WTA acts as an osteoconductive scaffold, providing structural support and potentially biological signals to promote bone healing and volume maintenance.
