WIL-1901

WIL-1901 is a long-acting depot injection formulation of donepezil developed by Whanin Pharmaceutical for the treatment of dementia. Classified as an incrementally modified drug (IMD), it is designed to provide sustained release of donepezil, a reversible and non-competitive acetylcholinesterase inhibitor (AChEI). By maintaining stable plasma concentrations over an extended period, WIL-1901 aims to improve patient adherence and reduce the caregiver burden associated with daily oral dosing. Donepezil works by inhibiting the enzyme acetylcholinesterase, which is responsible for the breakdown of acetylcholine in the synaptic cleft; this increases the availability of the neurotransmitter in the central nervous system, thereby mitigating the cognitive and functional decline characteristic of dementia and Alzheimer's disease.
