WIN 55212–2 is a synthetic aminoalkylindole derivative that acts as a potent agonist at cannabinoid receptors. It produces effects similar to those of cannabinoids such as tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) but has an entirely different chemical structure. The compound is a full agonist at both the CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors with high affinity and has been shown to be a potent analgesic in animal models of neuropathic pain. Mechanistically, it activates p42 and p44 MAP kinase via receptor-mediated signaling pathways. In addition to its analgesic properties, it exhibits neuroprotective effects and anti-inflammatory actions through prevention of microglial activation. It also acts as an agonist at PPARα and PPARγ nuclear receptors[1][2][3].
