Overview

Winged euonymus twig (Euonymi Ramulus, 鬼箭羽) refers to the twigs of Euonymus alatus (Thunb.) Sieb., a plant in the Celastraceae family. In traditional Chinese medicine, it is classified as a blood-quickening stasis-transforming and menses-regulating agent. The herb is characterized by its bitter and cold properties and primarily enters the liver channel. Its main actions include breaking up blood stasis, freeing channels (promoting circulation), killing parasites/worms, and treating menstrual irregularities such as amenorrhea or dysmenorrhea. It is also used for injuries from trauma (knocks/falls), postpartum abdominal pain due to blood stasis, wind-damp impediment pain (rheumatic conditions), abdominal masses or pain from parasite accumulation, and certain skin disorders when applied topically. Caution is advised in patients with bleeding tendencies or during pregnancy due to its strong effects on uterine contractions[2][4][6][7].
