wintergreen throat spray + aspirin

Wintergreen Throat Spray + aspirin is an investigational combination therapy developed by Applied Biological Laboratories (under the brand Biovanta) for the treatment of common cold symptoms and pharyngitis. The regimen consists of a topical throat spray and a 325 mg oral aspirin tablet. The throat spray contains a 'Mucosal Immune Complex' (MIC) composed of wintergreen oil (methyl salicylate), menthol, lactoferrin, lysozyme, and aloe vera. Methyl salicylate and aspirin both act as cyclooxygenase (COX) enzyme inhibitors, reducing the production of inflammatory prostaglandin E2 at the respiratory epithelium. The protein components (lysozyme and lactoferrin) and aloe are included to support and protect the mucosal barrier function. This combination was evaluated in a Phase 1 clinical trial (NCT06106880) to assess its efficacy in alleviating upper respiratory inflammation and associated symptoms.
