Withalongolide P is a naturally occurring withanolide, a type of steroidal lactone, isolated from the plant *Physalis longifolia* (Solanaceae). Structurally, it is characterized by a Δ2-1-oxo- functionality in the A ring, a 5β,6β-epoxy group in the B ring, and a lactone ring in its nine-carbon side chain. In preclinical research, withalongolide P has demonstrated potent cytotoxic activity against human head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (JMAR and MDA-1986) and melanoma (B16F10 and SKMEL-28) cell lines, with IC50 values ranging from 0.15 to 2.95 μM. It also shows cytotoxicity against normal fetal lung fibroblast (MRC-5) cells. Currently, it is primarily a research compound used to explore the structure-activity relationships of withanolides and has no known commercial developer or clinical stage.
