Overview

WSSO (Withania somnifera seed oil) is a supercritical fluid extract derived from the seeds of the Ashwagandha plant (*Withania somnifera*). It is characterized by a high content of fatty acids, primarily linoleic acid (54.15%), oleic acid (23.16%), and palmitic acid (12.64%), along with trace amounts of withanolides such as Withaferin A and Withanolide A. Developed by the Patanjali Research Institute, WSSO exhibits potent anti-inflammatory and anti-psoriatic activities. Its therapeutic effects are mediated through the inhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokines, specifically tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6), and the suppression of the NF-κB signaling pathway. Preclinical studies in mouse models have shown that topical application of WSSO reduces ear edema, epidermal thickness, and myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity, effectively repairing psoriasis-like skin lesions.
