Overview

WJ-39 is an orally bioavailable small molecule inhibitor of the TGF-beta receptor type 1 (ALK5), developed by Ningxia Kangya Pharmaceutical for the treatment of diabetic nephropathy. By inhibiting the TGF-β1/Smad signaling pathway, WJ-39 suppresses the expression of profibrotic factors and reduces the accumulation of extracellular matrix in the kidneys, thereby potentially slowing the progression of renal fibrosis and kidney damage associated with diabetes. It has undergone Phase 1 clinical evaluation in China to assess its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics in healthy volunteers and patients.
