WJ05 is a small molecule inhibitor of the Wee1 kinase, currently under development by Wigen Biomedicine Technology (Shanghai). Wee1 is a nuclear kinase that serves as a critical regulator of the G2/M cell cycle checkpoint by phosphorylating and inactivating CDC2. By inhibiting Wee1, WJ05 prevents cancer cells from repairing DNA damage before entering mitosis, thereby inducing mitotic catastrophe and apoptosis. This mechanism is particularly effective in TP53-deficient tumors, which rely heavily on the G2 checkpoint for DNA repair. WJ05 is being investigated for the treatment of various oncology indications.
