Overview

WMB-61-020 is a first-in-class small molecule inhibitor targeting lysophosphatidylcholine acyltransferase 3 (LPCAT3), currently under development by Wellmarkerbio. The drug is primarily being investigated for the treatment of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and liver fibrosis. LPCAT3 is a key enzyme in the Land's cycle, responsible for the incorporation of polyunsaturated fatty acids into phospholipids, which influences membrane composition and lipid droplet formation. Inhibition of LPCAT3 has been shown to modulate lipid metabolism, reduce hepatic triglyceride accumulation (steatosis), and mitigate inflammatory pathways associated with liver disease progression. WMB-61-020 is developed alongside predictive biomarkers to identify patient populations most likely to respond to the therapy, aligning with Wellmarkerbio's focus on biomarker-driven precision medicine.
