WN-80E is a recombinant subunit vaccine antigen consisting of the envelope (E) protein of West Nile virus (WNV), truncated to include 80% of the N-terminal amino acids. It is produced in a Drosophila melanogaster expression system and purified by immunoaffinity chromatography. The protein serves as a viral envelope antigen, designed to elicit protective immunity against WNV infection by inducing robust humoral and cellular immune responses. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that vaccination with WN-80E, especially when combined with adjuvants such as GPI-0100 or synthetic TLR4 agonists, results in high levels of neutralizing antibodies and protection from viremia in animal models including mice and rhesus macaques[2][4][5]. The vaccine has shown 100% efficacy in protecting monkeys against experimental WNV challenge[4][5]. It remains under investigation for use as a human West Nile virus vaccine.
