Wnt-5a is a protein belonging to the Wnt family, which plays a critical role in various pathobiological processes, including tumor formation and dissemination. It primarily functions as a ligand for frizzled receptors (Fzds) and Receptor Tyrosine Kinase-like Orphan Receptor 2 (ROR2), activating non-canonical Wnt signaling pathways. Wnt-5a has demonstrated diverse biological effects, such as impairing the migration of epithelial cancer cells, enhancing aquaporin 2 (AQP2) expression in renal collecting ducts to ameliorate sepsis-induced acute kidney injury, stimulating diabetic corneal epithelial wound healing, and modulating metaplasticity at hippocampal synapses. It is also implicated in the progression of osteoarthritis and angiogenesis in psoriasis.
