Overview

Wobenzym is an orally administered systemic enzyme therapy consisting of a combination of proteolytic enzymes and the bioflavonoid rutoside. Developed by Mucos Pharma, it typically contains pancreatin, papain, bromelain, trypsin, chymotrypsin, and rutoside trihydrate. The formulation is designed with an enteric coating to ensure the enzymes survive gastric acid and are absorbed in the small intestine. Wobenzym acts by modulating inflammatory mediators, improving micro-circulation, and supporting tissue repair. It is primarily indicated for the management of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis, particularly of the knee, where clinical trials have shown efficacy comparable to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like diclofenac. It is marketed globally as both an over-the-counter drug and a dietary supplement.
