Overview

WoundSeal is a non-prescription topical hemostatic powder designed to stop minor external bleeding rapidly. It consists of a hydrophilic polymer and potassium ferrate. Upon application to a bleeding wound and with manual pressure, the hydrophilic polymer absorbs blood and exudates, while potassium ferrate reacts with blood proteins to form an an occlusive seal or "instant scab" over the wound. This seal stops bleeding quickly—often within 30 seconds—and protects the wound as it heals beneath the barrier. The product does not rely on the body's natural clotting mechanisms, making it suitable for patients on anticoagulants or those with clotting disorders. It is non-toxic, hypoallergenic, not biologically derived, and does not act as a vasoconstrictor or cauterizing agent. Indications include cuts, skin tears, punctures, avulsions, biopsies, excisions (including Mohs micrographic surgery), nail avulsions, dialysis access sites, nosebleeds (with applicator), and other minor external wounds[1][5][6][7].
