**WP-REP1** is an investigational ophthalmic gene therapy developed by Wize Pharma through an exclusive license from Copernicus Therapeutics. It consists of non-viral DNA nanoparticles designed to deliver a functional copy of the **REP1** (*CHM*) gene to retinal cells for the treatment of **choroideremia**, a rare X-linked inherited retinal disease caused by mutations in the *CHM* gene leading to progressive vision loss. Unlike AAV-based REP1 therapies (e.g., AAV2.REP1/timrepigene emparvovec), WP-REP1 employs synthetic nanoparticle technology to achieve targeted gene expression, with preclinical proof-of-concept demonstrating vision improvement in animal models of inherited retinal diseases (IRDs). The planned regulatory path includes a Phase 1/2 trial to assess safety, tolerability, and clinical benefit via subretinal delivery.[1][5]
