Overview

**WP1097** is a preclinical antimetabolite small molecule developed by Moleculin Biotech. It is part of the company's WP1122 portfolio and is a close structural analog of WP1096. WP1097 demonstrates significant in vitro antiviral activity against SARS-CoV-2, HIV, Zika, and Dengue Fever among other viruses. Its primary mechanism is inhibition of glycolysis and glycosylation, disrupting critical pathways in viral replication and cancer cell metabolism. WP1097 is structurally designed to target glucose and mannose metabolism and is under investigation as a broad-spectrum antiviral with potential applications in infectious diseases and oncology. It is currently in preclinical development and has not yet entered clinical trials[1][2][4][6][7][10].
