Overview

**WP1222** is a small molecule prodrug of 2-deoxy-D-glucose (2-DG), a glycolysis inhibitor, designed to improve upon 2-DG's limitations by enabling passive diffusion into cells and crossing the blood-brain barrier, unlike 2-DG which relies on glucose transporters. Developed under license from MD Anderson Cancer Center by Moleculin Biotech as part of the WP1122 Portfolio, it targets metabolic processes in cancer, particularly glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) and other central nervous system malignancies, showing proof-of-concept data including comparable or superior survival in animal xenograft models versus temozolomide, alone or in combination.[1][5]
