Overview
WPV01 + ritonavir is a combination therapy under investigation for the treatment of mild to moderate COVID-19. Ritonavir is an oral protease inhibitor primarily used as a pharmacokinetic booster; it inhibits cytochrome P450 3A4, thereby increasing plasma concentrations of co-administered drugs. Ritonavir itself blocks HIV-1 protease, preventing viral replication, but in this context serves to enhance the exposure and effectiveness of WPV01 or other antiviral agents[1][2][3][7].
