Drug intelligence / Profile preview
WPV01 + ritonavir is a combination therapy under investigation for the treatment of mild to moderate COVID-19. WPV01 is being evaluated in a Phase III clinical trial for its efficacy and safety in patients with mild or moderate COVID-19 infection. Ritonavir is an oral protease inhibitor primarily used as a pharmacokinetic booster; it inhibits cytochrome P450 3A4, thereby increasing plasma concentrations of co-administered drugs. Ritonavir itself blocks HIV-1 protease, preventing viral replication, but in this context serves to enhance the exposure and effectiveness of WPV01 or other antiviral agents[1][2][3][7]. The developer of WPV01 is Westlake Pharmaceuticals.
