Drug intelligence / Profile preview
WS015 is an innovative, non-absorbable oral polymer drug developed by Waterstone Pharmaceutical for the treatment of hyperuricemia (HUA). Formulated as a dry suspension, the drug is designed to remain within the gastrointestinal tract without entering the systemic circulation. Its mechanism of action involves specifically binding and absorbing uric acid and its purine precursors within the gut, thereby facilitating their excretion and reducing the overall body burden of urate. This localized approach aims to manage metabolic disorder syndromes caused by purine metabolism disorders, such as gout, while minimizing systemic side effects. WS015 received FDA IND approval in January 2023 and is currently in Phase 1 clinical development.
