Overview

WS6 is a **small molecule** that acts as a mitogen to stimulate proliferation of both **human pancreatic beta cells** and **alpha cells** while maintaining cell viability and beta cell differentiation[1][6][7]. Mechanistically, WS6 modulates **Erb3 binding protein-1 (EBP1)** and the **IκB kinase pathway**[7], and does not cause dedifferentiation or apoptosis in treated human islets[1]. WS6 is under investigation as a potential therapy for **diabetes mellitus**, aiming to expand human islet mass through beta cell regenerative protocols[1][6]. Its chemical name is 4-[[6-[(Cyclopropylcarbonyl)amino]-4-pyrimidinyl]oxy]-N-[4-[(4-methyl-1-piperazinyl)methyl]-3-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]-benzeneacetamide[4].
