Overview

WSK-V102 is a recombinant protein subunit vaccine developed by WestVac Biopharma for the prevention of COVID-19. Produced using an insect cell (Sf9) expression platform, the vaccine features a trimer subunit antigen precisely designed based on the structure of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein receptor-binding domain (S-RBD) from mutant strains. The vaccine is intended to induce neutralizing antibodies that inhibit the SARS-CoV-2 S protein, thereby preventing viral entry into host cells. In June 2023, the variant-specific version WSK-V102D (targeting XBB variants) was granted emergency use authorization by Chinese national authorities for use as a booster dose in adults previously vaccinated with inactivated COVID-19 vaccines. It has since been marketed and distributed in China.
