Drug intelligence / Profile preview
WST03 is an investigational live biotherapeutic product (LBP) developed by Shanghai Sine Pharmaceutical Laboratories, a subsidiary of Shanghai Pharma, for the treatment of bacterial vaginosis (BV). It consists of a specific strain of *Lactobacillus crispatus*, a commensal bacterium that is a hallmark of a healthy vaginal microbiome. WST03 is designed to be administered intravaginally to replenish the *Lactobacillus* population, which is typically depleted in patients suffering from BV. By colonizing the vaginal epithelium and producing lactic acid, hydrogen peroxide, and other antimicrobial substances, WST03 helps restore a low vaginal pH and inhibits the overgrowth of anaerobic pathogens such as *Gardnerella vaginalis*. As a Class 1 biological new drug in China, it represents a targeted approach to microbiome restoration rather than traditional antibiotic treatment.
