Overview

WT-1108 is an orally bioavailable small molecule P2X3 receptor antagonist developed by Hangzhou Weitan Pharmaceutical Technology for the treatment of refractory or unexplained chronic cough (RCC/UCC). The P2X3 receptor is an ATP-gated ion channel found on airway sensory C-fibers; its overactivation is a key driver of cough reflex hypersensitivity. By selectively inhibiting P2X3, WT-1108 aims to reduce cough frequency while potentially minimizing the taste-related side effects (dysgeusia) associated with non-selective P2X receptor inhibition. The drug is currently undergoing Phase 2 clinical evaluation in China to assess its efficacy and safety in patients with chronic cough.
