Overview

WT003 is a recombinant human Apolipoprotein A-I Milano (rhApoA-I Milano) protein therapy being developed by Lee's Pharmaceutical (through its subsidiary ZKGZ Biotech) for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, including atherosclerosis and acute coronary syndrome. ApoA-I Milano is a rare, naturally occurring mutant form of apolipoprotein A-I, the primary protein component of high-density lipoprotein (HDL). This variant was first discovered in a small population in Italy and is associated with a significantly lower risk of cardiovascular events despite low HDL levels. WT003 is designed to enhance reverse cholesterol transport, a process that removes excess cholesterol from the arterial walls and transports it to the liver for excretion. By facilitating this process, WT003 aims to stabilize or regress atherosclerotic plaques, thereby reducing the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events. The drug is currently in Phase 1 clinical development.
