WT2725 is a peptide cancer vaccine derived from the Wilms tumor gene 1 (WT1) protein, designed to induce a specific cytotoxic T-lymphocyte (CTL) response against tumor cells that overexpress WT1. The vaccine is intended for use in patients with advanced malignancies, including glioblastoma, acute myeloid leukemia, non-small cell lung cancer, ovarian cancer, and other solid tumors known to express high levels of WT1. Upon administration—typically by subcutaneous injection—WT2725 stimulates the immune system to target and destroy WT1-positive tumor cells. Clinical studies have shown that it can elicit an immune response in a significant proportion of patients and has demonstrated preliminary antitumor activity, particularly in glioblastoma. The drug was developed through collaboration between Sumitomo Pharma (formerly Dainippon Sumitomo Pharma) and Chugai Pharmaceutical; subsequent development was conducted solely by Sumitomo Pharma[4][10][6][8].
