WT4869 is an investigational cancer vaccine consisting of a peptide derived from the Wilms' tumor 1 (WT1) protein. Developed by Sumitomo Pharma (formerly Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma), it is primarily being evaluated for the treatment of myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and refractory anemia with excess blasts in transformation (RAEB-t). The vaccine is administered intradermally and functions by inducing a specific immune response, particularly the activation of WT1-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs), which target and destroy malignant cells overexpressing the WT1 antigen. WT1 is a transcription factor that is highly expressed in various hematological malignancies and solid tumors but has limited expression in normal adult tissues, making it a suitable target for immunotherapy.
