WTX-212C is an allogeneic engineered red blood cell (eRBC) therapy developed by Westlake Biotherapeutics for the treatment of advanced solid tumors. Utilizing the proprietary RED-T platform, the therapy consists of healthy donor-derived red blood cells that have been genetically engineered to express immune-modulatory proteins. WTX-212C is designed to function as an artificial antigen-presenting cell within the tumor microenvironment, typically expressing the costimulatory ligand 4-1BBL and the cytokine Interleukin-12 (IL-12). These components work synergistically to activate and expand tumor-specific T cells and natural killer (NK) cells, thereby enhancing the body's anti-tumor immune response. As an allogeneic product, WTX-212C offers an off-the-shelf treatment option, potentially overcoming the manufacturing hurdles and time constraints associated with autologous cell therapies.
