Overview

WTX221 is an investigational erythrocyte-conjugated **urate oxidase** therapy being evaluated for refractory gout with tophi. It consists of urate oxidase molecules displayed on the surface of red blood cells, a design intended both to enzymatically reduce circulating uric acid and to leverage the tolerogenic properties of erythrocytes to induce antigen-specific immune tolerance to urate oxidase. An exploratory early-phase clinical study evaluated repeated WTX221 infusions together with a single dose of cyclophosphamide to support immune-tolerance induction.
