Overview
Wu Ling San is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula, also known as **Oreongsan** in Korea and **Goreisan** in Japan. It is a multi-herb botanical formulation traditionally composed of five ingredients: *Alisma orientale* (Ze Xie), *Poria cocos* (Fu Ling), *Polyporus umbellatus* (Zhu Ling), *Atractylodes macrocephala* (Bai Zhu), and *Cinnamomum cassia* (Gui Zhi). While historically used to regulate water metabolism and treat conditions like edema and urinary retention, it is currently being investigated for the treatment of **hyperuricemia**. A Phase 2 clinical trial (NCT04144088) led by Chung Shan Medical University evaluated its efficacy in reducing serum uric acid levels. The formula is believed to act through uricosuric mechanisms or by modulating uric acid metabolism, although its specific molecular targets (such as URAT1 or xanthine oxidase) have not been definitively characterized in clinical literature.
