Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Wuhong Tang (五红汤), also known as "Five Red Soup" or "Five Red Decoction," is a traditional Chinese herbal formula composed of five "red" ingredients: red dates (红枣), red beans (红豆), red-skinned peanuts (红皮花生), goji berries (枸杞), and brown sugar (红糖). It is widely utilized in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) as a dietary supplement primarily to nourish blood and qi (vital energy). The formula is traditionally indicated for addressing symptoms associated with qi and blood deficiency, such as dizziness, general fatigue, and pale complexion, aiming to improve overall vitality. Additionally, it has been noted for its potential to improve red blood cell and platelet counts, particularly in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, although its effect on white blood cells is considered less significant. Each ingredient contributes to the formula's overall therapeutic profile: red dates are believed to strengthen the spleen and nourish blood; red beans are thought to nourish and strengthen, invigorate the spleen and stomach, and promote diuresis; red-skinned peanuts are used to nourish blood and stop bleeding; goji berries are traditionally used to nourish the liver and kidneys; and brown sugar is included to replenish qi, nourish blood, strengthen the spleen, warm the stomach, invigorate blood, and alleviate pain.
