Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Wuling Capsules is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) preparation derived from the fermented powder of the fungus *Xylaria nigripes*. It is widely utilized in China for the treatment of psychological and neurological conditions, including insomnia, anxiety, and depressive symptoms. The drug's mechanism of action is primarily attributed to its ability to modulate the GABAergic and glutamatergic systems; it has been shown to increase the levels of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and the expression of GABA receptors while inhibiting glutamate-mediated excitatory signaling. In clinical practice, it is frequently studied as an adjunctive therapy to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) like escitalopram to enhance antidepressant effects and mitigate sleep disturbances in patients with major depressive disorder.
