Wumei pill (Wumei Wan) is a classic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula first recorded in the *Shanghan Lun* (Treatise on Febrile Diseases) by Zhang Zhongjing. It is the primary prescription for treating "Jueyin" syndrome, which is characterized by a complex mixture of cold and heat. Historically, it was indicated for intestinal parasitosis (calming roundworms) and chronic diarrhea. The formula typically consists of ten botanical and mineral ingredients: Mume Fructus (Wumei), Asari Radix et Rhizoma (Xixin), Zingiberis Rhizoma (Ganjiang), Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui), Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata (Fuzi), Zanthoxyli Pericarpium (Shujiao), Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guizhi), Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen), and Phellodendri Chinensis Cortex (Huangbai). In modern clinical research, particularly at the Eye Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, it is being investigated for its potential to lower intraocular pressure and protect visual function in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma by regulating biological rhythms and addressing the pathological damage associated with Jueyin disease.
