Overview
Wumei Pill decoction is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula being evaluated for the treatment of primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG). Developed and studied by the Eye Hospital, Chinese Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, the decoction is based on the classic "Wumei Wan" formula, which traditionally includes Mume Fructus, Coptidis Rhizoma, and Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, among other herbs. In clinical research (ChiCTR2200062634), it is investigated for its ability to regulate 24-hour intraocular pressure (IOP) fluctuations and circadian rhythms. The treatment aims to stabilize visual function and mood by modulating circadian biomarkers such as cortisol and melatonin, potentially offering a systemic approach to glaucoma management beyond conventional IOP-lowering eye drops.
