Overview
Wumei spray is a botanical therapeutic derived from *Prunus mume* (Fructus Mume or smoked plum), a traditional Chinese medicine known for its sialogogue properties. Developed by The First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University, it is primarily used to manage postoperative complications such as xerostomia (dry mouth), halitosis, and sore throat in patients following general anesthesia and orotracheal intubation. The formulation contains organic acids, such as citric and malic acid, which stimulate taste receptors and the salivary glands to increase salivary flow rate and modulate oral pH. By promoting the production of body fluids (a process known in TCM as Sheng Jin), the spray improves oral hygiene and patient comfort during the recovery period.
