Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Wumei Wan is a classic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula first recorded in the *Shanghan Lun* (Treatise on Febrile Diseases) during the Han Dynasty. It is composed of ten medicinal herbs: Mume Fructus, Asari Radix et Rhizoma, Zingiberis Rhizoma, Coptidis Rhizoma, Phellodendri Chinensis Cortex, Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Aconiti Radix Lateralis Praeparata, Cinnamomi Ramulus, Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, and Zanthoxyli Pericarpium. Traditionally indicated for Jueyin stage disorders characterized by heat in the upper body and cold in the lower body, as well as intestinal parasitic infections and chronic diarrhea, modern research has expanded its use to autoimmune and inflammatory conditions. In the context of psoriasis (DOID_8893), Wumei Wan is thought to exert therapeutic effects by modulating the IL-23/IL-17 signaling axis, restoring the balance between Th17 and Treg cells, and inhibiting pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-alpha and IL-6. It is also widely used in China for the treatment of ulcerative colitis and irritable bowel syndrome.
