Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Wuwei Fuzheng Yijing is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula developed for the treatment of male infertility, particularly cases associated with sperm DNA damage and high sperm DNA fragmentation index (DFI). The formula is derived from the classic Wuzi Yanzong Pill and consists of five main herbal ingredients: Radix Astragali (Astragalus root), Fructus Lycii (Goji berry), Achyranthes bidentata, Schisandra chinensis, and Plantago asiatica. Its purported effects include tonifying the kidney, invigorating the spleen and qi, activating blood circulation, and removing blood stasis. Modern pharmacological studies suggest that its mechanism involves reducing oxidative stress in reproductive tissues—primarily through antioxidant activity—and modulating metabolic pathways such as PI3K/Akt signaling. It has been shown in animal models to repair sperm DNA damage induced by environmental toxins like di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) and to improve semen quality parameters in clinical trials[5][6][9]. Clinical studies are ongoing to further evaluate its efficacy and safety for male infertility.
