Wuweiganlu

Wuweiganlu, also known as the Five-Nectar medicinal bath, is a classic traditional Tibetan medicine (TTM) formulation primarily used for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and various musculoskeletal disorders. The formulation typically consists of five core botanical ingredients: *Rhododendron anthopogonoides*, *Artemisia sieversiana*, *Myricaria germanica*, *Ephedra sinica*, and *Juniperus rigida*. It is most commonly administered as a medicinal bath (hydrotherapy), where the active phytochemicals—including flavonoids, terpenoids, and alkaloids—are absorbed through the skin. Pharmacologically, Wuweiganlu exhibits potent anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties by suppressing the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6, and inhibiting the expression of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). It is widely utilized in Tibetan clinical practice and has been integrated into modern integrative medicine in China.
