Overview
Wuweixiaodu Decoction (Wuwei Xiaodu Yin) is a classic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula composed of five herbs: *Lonicera japonica* (honeysuckle), *Chrysanthemum indicum* (wild chrysanthemum), *Taraxacum mongolicum* (dandelion), *Viola yedoensis* (violet), and *Semiaquilegia adoxoides* (muskroot-like semiaquilegia). Developed for clinical use in gouty arthritis by The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang Chinese Medicine University, it functions primarily by clearing heat and detoxifying. Mechanistically, the decoction suppresses the activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome and inhibits the production of key pro-inflammatory mediators, including interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α). These actions help to alleviate the acute pain and swelling associated with urate crystal deposition in joints. It is typically administered orally as a liquid decoction or as granules.
