Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Wuzi Yanzong oral solution (WZYZ) is a multi-component traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula used primarily for the treatment of male infertility, including asthenozoospermia and oligoasthenozoospermia. The formula is composed of five traditional herbs: Fructus Lycii (Gouqizi), Semen Cuscutae (Tusizi), Fructus Rubi (Fuppenzi), Semen Plantaginis (Cheqianzi), and Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis (Wuweizi). It is recognized as a first-line therapy in China for tonifying the kidney and improving reproductive essence. Mechanistically, WZYZ is thought to enhance sperm quality by mitigating oxidative stress in the testes, protecting germ cells from apoptosis, and modulating the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis to maintain hormonal balance. It is currently being utilized as an active comparator in clinical trials conducted by institutions such as the Xiyuan Hospital of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences to evaluate newer TCM formulations.
