Overview

Wuzi Yanzong Pill is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula with a history of over a thousand years. It is primarily used for the treatment of male infertility and reproductive disorders. The formula consists of five herbal seeds—Lycii Fructus (Chinese wolfberry), Cuscutae Semen (dodder seed), Rubi Fructus (raspberry), Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus (Schisandra berry), and Plantaginis Semen (plantain seed). In TCM theory, it acts by tonifying the kidney and nourishing "Jing" or reproductive essence. Modern pharmacological studies suggest that its mechanisms may involve modulation of apoptosis pathways relevant to spermatogenesis via targets such as TP53, TNF, AKT1, Bcl-XL, BCL-2, and IκBA[6]. It has been shown in clinical studies to improve sperm parameters including motility and concentration in men with oligoasthenozoospermia[5][7]. The pill is also used for symptoms associated with kidney deficiency such as backache and premature ejaculation[4].
