Overview

WXD171-TraP is an experimental oral vaccine candidate utilizing an engineered probiotic strain, *Limosilactobacillus reuteri* WXD171, as a delivery vehicle for the *Staphylococcus aureus* antigen TraP (Target of RNAIII-activating protein). It is designed to elicit mucosal and systemic immune responses to protect against *S. aureus* infections, including pneumonia and sepsis. The vaccine platform leverages the natural ability of *L. reuteri* to survive the gastrointestinal environment and adhere to the intestinal mucosa, thereby facilitating the presentation of the TraP antigen to gut-associated lymphoid tissues (GALT). In preclinical studies, this live vaccination strategy has been evaluated alongside other antigen-specific constructs like WXD171-IsdB to determine its efficacy in inducing protective immunity against nosocomial and community-acquired infections.
