WXSH0208 is an investigational small molecule antiviral drug developed by Shandong Chenxin Pharmaceutical for the treatment of acute uncomplicated influenza A and B. It functions as a potent inhibitor of the cap-dependent endonuclease (CEN) within the polymerase acidic (PA) subunit of the influenza viral RNA polymerase complex. By targeting this specific enzyme, WXSH0208 blocks the "cap-snatching" process required for the initiation of viral mRNA synthesis, thereby effectively halting viral replication. This mechanism of action is similar to that of baloxavir marboxil but is designed to offer optimized pharmacokinetic properties. WXSH0208 is currently being evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials in China.
