WZ811 is a potent, small molecule research compound that functions as a highly selective and competitive antagonist of the C-X-C motif chemokine receptor 4 (CXCR4). Developed by Emory University, it is designed to disrupt the interaction between CXCR4 and its ligand, CXCL12 (SDF-1), which is a critical signaling pathway involved in tumor cell proliferation, survival, and migration. Preclinical research indicates that WZ811 is orally active and effectively inhibits CXCR4-mediated modulation of cAMP levels and SDF-1-induced cellular invasion. It has been primarily investigated for its therapeutic potential in CXCR4-related malignancies, such as chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), where it has shown the ability to inhibit tumor growth and motility. Additionally, the compound has demonstrated weak anti-HIV activity in cell culture models. WZ811 is currently at the discovery stage and is used exclusively as a research chemical.
